Music Index

The Music Index is available in print covering 1949 to 1993 (located on the Hamon Index Tables), and on CD-ROM covering 1979 to 1995 (located in the Hamon Electronic Reference Center). This index is a database of information about articles published in music periodicals. Information relating to the article's author and title, together with the date of publication, periodical name, page numbers and other bibliographic details are collected into documents, or records. Each record can be searched by subject heading, title, book author, periodical, date and keyword.

http://www.musictherapy.org This is the site maintained by the National Association for Music Therapy. It has information on employment, education, and how to get in contact with other music therapists.

http://expressivetherapy.org A nonprofit organization dedicated to education & service in the creative arts therapies & related disciplines.

http://www.iser.com Internet Special Education Resources. A nationwide directory of professionals who serve the learning disabilities and special education communities.

http://www.alz.org The Alzheimer's Association.

Listservs

In traveling through these webpages, you will come across some references to listservs. For those of you who are not familiar with these, listservs are "discussion lists" that often come in the form of email messages. Below you will find instructions for subscribing to some listservs devoted to Music Therapy. Upon subscribing, you will receive confirmation of your subscription and some important instructions that you should keep.

Music Therapy ListServ: The use of music to restore, maintain, & improve mental & physical health. To join the listserv send e-mail to listserv@ukanvm.cc.ukans.edu with nothing in the subject line. The message should read SUBSCRIBE MUSTHP-L First Name Last Name. It is a free service and you can cancel your subscription anytime. To cancel send an email to listserv@ukanvm.cc.ukans.edu with nothing in the subject line. The message should read SIGN OFF MUSTHP-L First Name Last Name.

Music-Therapy-ENews: The Music-Therapy-ENews is a distribution only email alert set up by the National Association for Music Therapy. It is not a discussion list. In order to subscribe to the 'Music-Therapy-ENews' mailing list send e-mail to majordomo@namt.com. Again, nothing in the subject line and the text should say: subscribe Music-Therapy-ENews First Name Last Name. You may unsubscribe at any time by sending the command unsubscribe Music-Therapy-ENews in the body of a message to majordomo@namt.com.

PsycINFO

PsycINFO contains citations with abstracts to the worldwide literature in the field of psychology. The database is produced and copyrighted by the American Psychological Association. Coverage is from 1984 to the present and the database is updated monthly. For earlier citations, consult Psychological Abstracts (1927 to the present can be found in Fondren Reference, call number- Z7203 .P96)

PsycINFO uses the same search commands as PONI, for example:

k=music and adhd

To display abstracts on screen, you must select the LONg View. By typing HOL, you will be able to determine if SMU owns the particular journal. Not all articles included in this database are in journals owned by SMU.

To return from PsycINFO to PONI , the SMU Libraries' online catalog, type cho poni.
