Over the years, the Pelican Shakespeare has been my most treasured text in teaching Shakespeare to high school and university theatre students. The work is a collaborative effort among American scholars which presents the comedies, histories, tragedies, romances and non-dramatic poetry of this man for all seasons and all times. Constructed from the original quartos and folio in light of contemporary principles in bibliographical study, the book makes Shakespeare accessible and theatrical. The introductions place the works in critical perspective without dogmatism or eccentricity.
