“JFK Remembered” is presented by the Central University
Libraries at Southern Methodist University from November 15,
2003 to December 5, 2003. The exhibit consists of three main
components. 1) The commemorative LIFE Magazine (in
facsimile) provided by The History Channel. The display
mounted is intended to emphasize the historical significance
of the Theodore H. White “Camelot” essay that appeared in
this publication. Although this essay, "An Epilogue", was
written with considerable input from Mrs. Jacqueline
Kennedy, most scholars hold that the "Camelot" analogy
introduced here was entirely White's own invention. Whatever
its provenance, this vision of the Kennedy years as a
legendary time still holds great fascination for the
American public. 2) Unique and candid photographs of the
Kennedys’ arrival in Dallas on the morning of November 22,
1963, taken by former Dallas Morning News staff photographer
Doris Jacoby, accompanied by original copies of Ms. Jacoby's
press pass and invitation to the events associated with the
Presidential visit of November, 1963, including the Dallas
Trade Mart luncheon. Ms. Jacoby's photographs and personal
effects appear in this exhibit courtesy of her niece,
Barbara Jacoby Geyer. 3) A chronology of John Fitzgerald
Kennedy’s major accomplishments as the 35th President of the
United States, keyed to pertinent books and government
documents drawn from the local library collections.
