This procedure is used by catalogers to record their monthly statistics.
Cataloging is counted by format and location. With one exception, titles and items are divided into print (books, serials, and scores) and non print (CDs, DVDs, microforms, etc.) and separated by location (Hamon, Fondren, Science, Fort, etc.). Count each new bibliographic record as a title under the appropriate format and location and each new item record as an item under the appropriate format and location. The exception is new bib records with an “inet” location on the mfhd, which should be counted only as titles.
Examples:
1 new bib record, 1 mfhd, 1 item record: count as 1 title, 1 item
1 new bib record, 2 mfhds, 1 item per mfhd: count as 1 title, 2 items
1 new bib record, 1 mfhd, 2 item records: count as 1 title, 2 items
1 new bib record, 1 mfhd, 2 item records (1 for book and 1 for non print accompanying material): count as 1 title, 2 items each item under the appropriate format and location
1 existing bib record, 1 new mfhd (for an additional copy), 1 new item: count as 1 item
1 existing bib record, 1 new mfhd, 2 new item records: count as 2 items
1 existing bib record, 1 existing mfhd, 1 new item: count as 1 item.
Do not count material in a pocket or attached to the primary material that is not represented by an item record. It is recorded as a “piece” on the item record for the primary material, but not barcoded and not counted on a statistical sheet.
Examples:
1 new bib record, 1 mfhd, 1 item record for volume with picture in pocket: count as 1 title, 1 item (2 pieces are recorded on the item record to indicate 1 volume and 1 accompanying picture, but the picture is not counted on the statistical sheet).
1 new bib record, 1 mfhd, 1 item record for volume with CD in pocket: count as 1 title, 1 item (2 pieces are recorded on the item record to indicate 1 volume and 1 accompanying CD; the CD is not counted on the statistical sheet).
Withdrawals
Count each withdrawn or deleted bibliographic record as a withdrawn title and each withdrawn item record as a withdrawn item under the appropriate format and location.
