The Fort Burgwin Library serves the information needs of students and faculty in the SMU-in-Taos program. The library contains approximately 6200 books and  small collections of journals and maps. The collection, closely tailored to the Taos curriculum, focuses on the history, literature, cultures, and environment of New Mexico and neighboring states in the Southwest. Books and journals in the Fort Library are included in the PONI database.

The library, a unit of Central University Libraries, occupies the Fred Wendorf Information Commons building along with the computer lab, which provides high-speed Internet access and a range of equipment and software to support the Taos curriculum. Students and faculty also may use their own laptop computers to access the Internet through the wireless network or at individual study carrels.
