Summer Only

The Summer Youth Program, for students ages 5 through 18, offers one- and two-week enrichment workshops throughout the summer in the areas of technology, computers, multimedia, writing, art, math, science, literature, gaming, the Internet, study skills, and social skills.

Summer programs for advanced students, offered through SMU's Gifted Students Institute, include College Experience and the Talented and Gifted (TAG) program.  College Experience is a unique five-week summer program that allows a small and carefully chosen group of highly motivated and academically able high school students to get a head start on college and a taste of campus life. TAG is a three-week residential summer program that offers intellectual challenges and exciting learning experiences to academically accelerated students completing the seventh, eighth, or ninth grade. Girls Talk Back: Making Yourself Heard, an exciting one-week summer camp for young women entering the 11th grade, provides opportunities to enhance communication skills through writing, public speaking, and professional etiquette classes

SMU Athletics offers Summer Sports Camps for kids in grades K-12; sports typically featured include swimming, basketball, soccer, tennis, track, volleyball, and football.

The School of Engineering also offers an Engineering Camp for Girls, which exposes its participants to new and exciting technology and engineering concepts and introduces them to fun and rewarding careers in engineering.

Year Round

Every fall the Gifted Students Institute sponsors a one-day conference for gifted 7th-grade boys, and every spring, the Institute sponsors a one-day conference for gifted 7th-grade girls.

Academic-Skills Enhancement workshops promote the development of academic skills and are available for students ages 4 through 18.  Workshops topics include reading, study techniques, writing, SAT preparation, TAKS preparation, vocabulary, math, and science.  Workshops are offered both on SMU's main campus near downtown Dallas and at SMU-in-Legacy.

If art is your child's passion, the Meadows School of the Arts Community Education program offers art workshops for kids throughout the year.

The School of Engineering's Visioneering program brings teenagers to campus one Saturday every spring to learn about new and exciting career opportunities in engineering.  Visit the Engineering School's Special Programs page to learn about other engineering programs for pre-college students.
