Human Resources and Business Services

Dr. Bill Detwiler, Associate Vice President for Human Resources and Business Services, oversees Human Resources and Business Services for the University. 

 

Business Services is a major service provider to students, faculty, staff, and  patrons of the University in support of instruction, research and public service.  

 

Business Services consists of  the SMU Police Department, Risk Management and Environmental Health and Safety, Procurement, and Auxiliary Services.  Auxiliaries include Dining Services, Post Office, Bookstore, Conference Services, McFarlin Auditorium, Vending, Parking ID, and Pony Express Card.

Dr. Bill Detwiler
Associate Vice President for Human Resources and Business Services

Dr. Detwiler has a longtime affiliation with Southern Methodist University as Associate Vice President of Business Services.  He is an adjunct faculty member teaching the graduate level arbitration courses in the Center for Conflict Management & Dispute Resolution.  He also teaches Collective Bargaining/Labor Relations at the University of Texas at Dallas.  He has arbitrated and mediated hundreds of labor cases in the public and private sectors and has had numerous awards published.  He has been appointed to the Labor Panel of the American Arbitration Association, National Mediation Board, and Arbitration Institute of Canada. 

Dr. Detwiler serves as a Director on two Boards.  He is a Viet Nam veteran where he served as an officer as a combat engineer. 

Dr. Detwiler received his Bachelors and Doctorate degrees from the University of Georgia and MBA from Michigan State University.  He is married and has twin daughters.
