Budget and Information Technology Services
Dr. Randall Powell, Associate Vice President for Budget and Information Technology Services, oversees
development, implementation and analysis of the University's operating and
capital budgets; facilitates long-range financial planning; and develops
analytical and reporting systems that encourage rational, effective resource
acquisition and allocation processes.
The Administrative
Computing and Academic Computing
offices provide information technology services and support to University
students, faculty, and staff.
The Administrative Computing departments include Applications Support, Computer Corner, Computing
Resources, Help Desk, Telecommunications, Webmaster, and Administrative Systems Training.
Academic Computing encompasses Classroom Technology Support,
Course Management Systems, Multimedia & Web Development,
Professional Development, and
Statistical and Research Support.
Leadership Biography

Dr. Randall R. Powell
Associate Vice President for Budgets and Information Technology Services
Dr. Randall R. Powell joined SMU in October 2000 as the Associate Vice President for Budgets and Financial Planning. Dr. Powell oversees development, implementation and analysis of SMU's operating and capital budgets, facilitates long-range financial planning by working with the vice presidents, deans, financial officers and the Offices of Controller and Treasurer.
In October 2005, Dr. Powell agreed to become Associate Vice President for Budget and Information Technology Services (BITS), therefore, broadening his role at the campus beyond the budget and financial planning arena to encompass information technology services. Dr. Powell has extensive experience in university planning and budgeting, as well as expertise in the area of information technology.
Dr. Powell previously was associate vice chancellor for administration and finance at the Tulane University Medical Center in New Orleans. He also has served Tulane as associate vice president for budgets and institutional research, and university budget director. Additionally, Dr. Powell served as adjunct assistant professor of biostatistics at Tulane's School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine.
Dr. Powell is a 1980 graduate of The University of Alabama, earning his master's and doctoral degrees in educational psychology/research.
