The mission of the SMU Health Service is to provide primary care services and health education that promote an environment of personal and community health that will enhance academic productivity and reduce the incidence of medically-related attrition.
Undergraduate and graduate students paying the full General Student Fee are eligible to receive health services in the Memorial Health Center. Students not paying the full General Student Fee may pay $120.00/semester or $45.00/visit. The health fee covers unlimited primary care physician visits at no charge, as well as all counseling services. There is a $45.00 charge in addition to the health fee for specialized physician consultation, which includes gynecology, orthopedics and dermatology. There is also a charge for laboratory tests, x-rays, pharmaceuticals and supplies, which may be charged to students' university accounts. Covered charges for treatment rendered to students enrolled in SMU's Student Insurance Plan will be billed directly to the insurance company. International students are required by law and university policy to have health insurance which meets the minimum requirements specified by the US government. International students must either sign up for the SMU Health Insurance Plan through SMU's Memorial Health Center or obtain their own health insurance policy that provides coverage which meets US government requirements. Failure to maintain such health insurance will make the student liable for any health care costs incurred in the United States and subject the student to expulsion from the University.SMU Student Insurance Plan Rates for the 2007-2008 Academic Year:
