William Caxton (c. 1422-1491) established the first printing press in England in 1476, having printed the first English book in 1473-74 at Bruges. His early editions included the works of Chaucer and Malory, as well as his own translations of Continental literature into English. Bridwell Library owns Caxton's most extensive work, the Golden Legend of 1483.
