Tyndale’s Parable of the Wicked Mammon William Tyndale. The Parable of the Wycked Mammon Taken Out of the .xvi. Ca. of Luke. [Malborow, Hesse: Hans Luft, 1528 (i.e. London, 1537?)]. This is the first work by Tyndale to bear his name, although it still has a fictitious colophon. In spite of the personal risk involved in revealing his identity, Tyndale felt that anonymity was providing fuel for propagandists. The work is fundamentally a treatise on justification by faith, but also includes a translation of a sermon by Luther on Luke 16: 1-13, also known as "the parable of the unjust steward." Tyndale then examined other New Testament passages that might seem to contradict the central reformation doctrine of justification by faith. This is an extremely rare early printing of Tyndale’s work. Tyndale’s note to the reader "The notes of the boke" appears here. |
