Guide to Locations Listed in PONI


 

Bridwell Library—books in the circulating collection are shelved in the basement along the north wall.  Dewey Decimal numbers are located on the left as you face the shelves.  Library of Congress numbers start in the center area and extend all the way to the right.

 

Bridwell Library New Books—anteroom of the red room (with the daily newspapers) on 1st floor

 

Course Reserves—Circulation Desk.  Please use the Course Reserves button in Poni to look up the call number of the item you wish to see.  You can look it up by instructor, department, and/or course.

 

Microfilm—Room 6, in basement

 

Periodicals—current issues in the red room on the 1st floor, older volumes are in the basement stacks.  All are arranged alphabetically by title

 

Oversize—Room 6, in basement

 

Reference—green room

 

Reference + Dewey Decimal Number—blue room

 

Special Collections or Methodist Reference—our rare books.  Come to the Circulation Desk or to the reference office.  We will have you fill out a form, then we will take you upstairs so you can work in the Special Collections reading room.

 

Special Reference—Bridwell’s not-quite-so-rare books.  Come to the Circulation Desk or to the reference office.  We will have you fill out a form, then we will page the item for you.  You may use these items anywhere inside Bridwell.

 

Poni is the online catalog for all of SMU’s libraries.  Other locations you will see include:

BIC=Business Information Center in Cox School of Business

 

Central University Libraries or CUL=organization of libraries that support the Arts, Humanities, and Sciences.  The complex is on the east side of the main quad.  It consists of

 

DeGolyer=CUL’s Special Collection Library

Fondren=the main library of campus

Hamon=art, music, and film.  This is located in the Meadows School of the Arts across the north parking lot from Bridwell

Science Library=science and engineering, in CUL complex

 

Underwood=Law Library at the top northwest corner of campus
