Finding D.Min. Projects in Poni ( http://poni.smu.edu )

1. Go to the Advanced search screen in Poni.

2. Click on “select more search limits” button on the lower right. Select “Bridwell Library: All” under location. You can also refine your search by dates. Once you have made your choices, click on “set limits.”

3. Back at the Advanced search page, enter “Southern Methodist” in the first keyword field, and “project” in the second. If you are looking for a particular topic, you can enter a term that describes it in the third field. You should be prepared to use synonyms, however, in case you don’t find what you are looking for on the first try. Click search.

4. The list of search results will appear in reverse chronological order (most recent first).

Finding Theses in Poni

1. Go to the Basic search screen in Poni.

2. Under “quick limits” (step 3), select “Bridwell Library.”

3. In “search for” (step 1) enter “thesis,” and in “search in” (step 2) select Call Number. Click search.

4. The list of search results will NOT appear in reverse chronological order.

Please note that D.Min projects and theses are available in different formats. Some projects have been microfilmed and are available during the library’s normal hours. Others are available in their original format and are shelved in a secure location. They have to be retrieved by authorized staff member, who are available between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. If you need an item at a different time, you will need to consult with either the head of Reference or the head of Circulation. Thank you.

Finding Dissertations

1. Use Digital Dissertations, a database of almost all dissertations submitted to accredited institutions in the United States since 1861. Masters theses have been selectively indexed since 1962. To access Digital Dissertations, either enter it as a title in a basic search from Poni. Or, go to Online Resources, select “D” under Indexes, Databases, and References Resources, the select “Digital Dissertations” from the list.

2. Click the “Enter” button from the Digital Dissertation home page. This will bring up a search engine similar in appearance and functionality to Poni’s Advanced search page. Choose your search terms and enter.

3. You can use dates to limit your search.
