The Holy Bible, Conteining the Olde Testament and the New. Newly translated out of the Originall Tongues: and with the former Translations diligently compared and reuised by his Maiesties speciall Commandement. London: Robert Barker, 1612.

Octavo. [952] pages, 6¼ x 4¼ inches. Roman, double column. Bound in modern dark brown calfskin; gilt lettering on spine. The above bibliographic information is from DMH 315. The title page in the Ryrie copy is a facsimile of an altered 1630 title page which reads: The Holy Bible containing the Old Testament and the New ... appointed to be read in Churches. London: Robert Barker ... and assigns of John Bill, 1612. § DMH 315; STC (2nd ed.) 2221. § CD-ROM: 9.3, fol. N3v (detail), "he".

Only 6¼ by 4¼ inches, this edition, the first in octavo format, is dwarfed by its folio cousin of 1611. It is a close reprint of the folio 1611, with the reading "he" in Ruth 3:15. Both title pages of this edition have the same borders representing the four Evangelists, the twelve Tribes, the twelve Apostles, and other symbolic and typological figures. A small woodcut of Adam and Eve occurs before Genesis. This copy has a title page in facsimile, and the whole volume shows signs of extended usage. It is a brave survivor, as most copies were read to pieces.
