Bold Beginnings: The Art of the Illuminated Initial in the Bridwell-DeBellis Collection of Fifteenth-Century Italian Printing

This guidebook includes descriptions of thirty-six examples of fifteenth-century Italian printing from the collection of Frank V. DeBellis, which Joseph Bridwell had acquired for this library in 1962. Each of the selected books featured beautiful hand-painted initials that were characteristic of the transition from manuscript illumination to printed decoration of books.
