In 1997, as a memorial to Dallas art patron and bookbinding enthusiast Helen Warren DeGolyer (†1995), Bridwell Library established the nation's only ongoing award competition for American bookbinders. The catalog of the first triennial exhibition illustrated examples of twenty-two binders' works and their design concepts for the prize commission (won by Don Etherington of Brown Summit, North Carolina), The Book of Common Prayer, printed on vellum by Daniel Berkeley Updike in 1928.
