The Reformation of the Bible, the Bible of the Reformation

Winner of the 1997 Katherine Kyes Leab & Daniel J. Leab American Book Prices Current Exhibition Catalogue Award for Excellence, presented by the American Library Association and the Association of College and Research Libraries, Rare Books & Manuscripts Section.

One of the outstanding achievements among Bridwell Library's publications, this prize-winning exhibition catalog was produced in collaboration with the renowned biblical historian Dr. Jaroslav Pelikan of Yale University. His incisive essays investigate the traditions of biblical philology, exegesis and hermeneutics (interpretative methods), vernacular translation, and illustration that culminated during the Reformation. The scholarly catalog of the exhibition was compiled by Dr. Valerie Hotchkiss, Director of Bridwell Library, and Dr. David Price, now of the Perkins School of Theology. The exhibition itself, organized at Bridwell Library with nearly eighty items from its own collections, was also mounted at libraries at Yale University, Harvard University, and Columbia University.

The Reformation of the Bible, the Bible of the Reformation, by Jaroslav Pelikan, David Price, and Valerie R. Hotchkiss. Designed by Jan B. Sobota. Yale University Press, New Haven, Connecticut, and Bridwell Library, Dallas, Texas, 1996. 110 pp., illus., $24.36.
