Let It Go among Our People:  An Illustrated History of the English Bible from John Wyclif to the King James Version

To complement the exhibition, "The Bible in English: Before and After the Hampton Court Conference, 1604," David Price, Associate Professor of History at SMU and Charles C. Ryrie, Professor of Theology, Emeritus at Dallas Theological Seminary, have written this new study of the English Bible. Prior to the appearance in 1611 of the King James or Authorised Version, the English Bible had had a most tumultuous history. Many of the previous versions emerged from the shadows of illegal movements or other organised attempts to produce a standard Bible for the realm. In their book, the authors offer both a political and literary history of the Bible and also linger over the texts of the Bible, comparing significant passages in the various versions. Fine illustrations from extraordinarily rare imprints, accompanied by lengthy captions, are an integral part of the book.
