The Elizabeth Perkins Prothro Galleries

The Elizabeth Perkins Prothro Galleries are home to Bridwell Library's exhibitions.  The galleries were the gift of Charles N. Prothro in honor of his wife, Elizabeth, on the occasion of their fiftieth wedding anniversary, January 14, 1988.  Dallas firm Hellmuth, Obata & Kassabaum designed the over four thousand square feet of gallery space to provide a flexible, environmentally sound and secure area for exhibitions. The cases of glass, wood and granite are the product of Helmut Günschel of Baltimore. The galleries opened following the successful completion of the renovation of the library in 1989.  The inaugural exhibition was drawn from the Elizabeth Perkins Prothro Bible Collection.  Elizabeth Perkins Prothro donated the collection itself to Bridwell Library in 1996.
