Physical Characteristics of the Centennial Edition of Huck Finn The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is printed on light cream colored archival Mohawk Letterpress paper, with the grain running the height of the book. The Pennyroyal Huckleberry Finn speaks through striking typography as well as imagery. Centaur and Arrighi typefaces are set in monotype by MacKenzie and Harris of San Francisco, California; and Chase Twitchell hand composed the text at the Pennyroyal Press. Yvette Rutledge of Hayward, California executed the calligraphy on the title page. E. Gray Parrot of Easthampton, Massachusetts designed and bound 350 numbered copies. The Bridwell copy that will be bound by the winner of the 2003 competition was not among the numbered and bound copies, but came directly from Barry Moser’s stock, bearing only his signature. The book’s dimensions are: (Height× Width × Depth) 324 × 254 × 47mm [13 × 10.25 × 2.25 inches]; with generous margins at the gutter = 27mm, head = 35mm, fore edge = 45mm, and tail = 65mm. The Bridwell copy is forwarded but not bound. It is sewn on seven ¼ inch tapes, and made up of 34 sections with four bifolia per gathering. The endpapers remain from its original forwarding and consist of a single bifolium of paste paper tipped (but not made) to a single plain bifolium, which is then tipped to the text. It completes its forwarding with rounding and backing, stuck on leather headbands, and a tag board hollow. Binders may alter any of the existing forwarding. All elements are adhered with PVA and should not pose any problems if reversed.
