BEFORE I CAME TO SMU,
I WISH SOMEONE HAD TOLD ME…
- Texas summers get insanely hot!
- That starting over isn’t always easy, just because you have done it before.
- Cafeteria food is not that bad!
- That I
was going to see a whole bunch of different people from all over the
world.
- About all the organizations.
- What my major was finally going to be!
- Nobody’s going to coddle you.
- You can do and be whatever
or whoever you want to, BUT you have to take the initiative.
- That it’s OK to switch your major 3 times.
- To get involved as early as possible to help me find my place and core group of friends.
- Don’t forget about the community service you did in high school — there is a whole office here at SMU for that!
- You don’t have to drink to
have a great social life!
- The Boulevard really is fun — ditch the high heels!
- That you can rent tents on campus and go on outdoor adventures.
- College is 100% about time management.
- That “Go to
Class” is
some of the best advice I got, but that it wasn’t a joke!
- Spend less money early on — it goes fast!
- It’s OK to call home when you have a problem.
- Realize there are times to study and times to play.
- Don’t pre-judge people by
the FACE BOOK!
- In the words of Professor Joe Kobylka’s father, “You’re going to do stupid things — just don’t be too stupid.”
- That I can be my own advocate!
- That every year SMU thinks their football team is going to win.
- The SAC rocks!
- To read the Daily Campus — it was mid-semester before I realized it came out four days a week and that I had to pick one up!
- Yes, you do need to check your SMU e-mail address — I found out the hard way!
