ANNUAL EVENTS

The Anthro Club also sponsors a number of events over the course of the academic year, most notably the annual "Pig Roast" held each Spring semester. Now an institution within the department, the "Pig Roast" consists of a special guest lecture chosen each year by either the archaeology or anthropology side of the department. These lectures have succeeded in bringing to SMU some of the most interesting and provocative researchers in these fields to SMU.

In recent years, another Anthro Club event, the annual Dia de los Muertos has become an important Fall semester event. Held each November 1st, Dia de los Muertos is an important tradition in the Americas where people pause to remember and celebrate the lives of their ancestors and loved ones who have passed on with music, food, and a special altar constructed to hold mementos, photographs and candles. Each year since 2003 faculty, staff, and students from the universtiy community have gathered in Heroy Hall to take part in this tradition.

BROWN BAG LECTURE SERIES

Each year the Anthro Club presents the Brown Bag Lecture series. Each of these informal lectures is scheduled over the lunch hour and showcases new research and analyses by faculty, graduate and undergraduate students working in the field. Bring your lunch and join us for a stimulating discussion of the most current research in our field!
