Mustangs Kick Off Against Texas Tech and UNT
All eyes are on the Mustangs for the 2007 season with hopes of a Conference USA championship and SMU’s first bowl berth in 23 years. Eight conference games, five televised games and crowd-pleasing rivals including Texas Tech and UNT add up to a hot-ticket season on the Hilltop. The 2006 season laid the groundwork for a winning year: the Mustangs upped their win total for the third straight season, posted the highest win total in a decade and reached bowl eligibility, all while featuring talented young players.
SMU student-athletes filled a Conference USA-high six spots on the All-Freshman team and also filled two spots on The Sporting News’ Freshman All-America squad.
"It was great to be playing for a Conference Championship last November," said Head Coach Phil Bennett. "We'll be a better football team and we're going in with the goal of being Conference USA football champions.”
