Vicki Hill, Director, received her A.B. from the University of California at Berkeley and her Ph.D. from SUNY Buffalo. Her major fields of study are literature, American studies, composition, and women's studies. Before assuming the Directorship of the A-LEC in August 1989, she directed SMU's First-Year Writing Program and taught in the SMU English Department. E-mail: vhill@smu.edu, 214.768.3292.

Patricia Feldman, Associate Director for Academic Skills, received her A.B. from St. Lawrence University and her M.A. from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Her major fields of study are English and Adult and Secondary Reading. Before joining the staff of the A-LEC, she directed SMU's Reading and Learning Center for three years, directed the North Lake College Learning Center for four years, established an adult literacy program in North Carolina, and taught high school English. Ben Thomas, Associate Director for Tutorial Services, received his A.B. from Harvard College and his Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina. His major field of study is mathematics. Before joining the A-LEC in August 1989, he taught mathematics and computer science at Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Oregon, and at the University of Dallas. Sue Bierman, Associate Director for Student Athlete Academic Services, received her B.S., M.S, and Ph.D. from Texas A&M University. Her major fields of study are Psychology, Counseling, and Higher Education Administration. Before joining the A-LEC staff in January 2007, Sue was an Assistant Professor and Coordinator for Student Services at Butler University. Ann Shattles, Senior Learning and Communications Specialist, received her B.A. in English from the University of Texas at Dallas and her M.A. in English from SMU. Before joining the A-LEC staff, she taught Rhetoric and Honors Rhetoric in the SMU English Department and worked as a member of the Writing Center faculty and editor of Criteria, SMU's Journal of First-Year Writing. Alexa Taylor, L.P.C., Learning Disabilities Specialist, received her B.S. from Oklahoma State University and her M.S. in Counseling Psychology from the University of North Texas, and, in January 2002, received her Texas LPC license (Licensed Professional Counselor). Before joining the A-LEC staff in November 2001, she worked as a Neuropsychology Therapist at the Baylor Institute for Rehabilitation, as Care Coordinator for the Lena Pope Home, and completed a year-long practicum with SMU's Counseling and Testing Center. Jane Preston, Senior Academic Counselor, received her B.A. in Geology and M.S. in Educational Administration from Texas A&M University. Meg Banahan, Academic Counselor, received her B.S. in Journalism and M.S. in Kinesiology from Texas A&M University in 2003 and 2005 respectively. Before joining the A-LEC staff in September 2006, she worked as an Athletic Academic Counselor at the University of Mississippi and as a Graduate Assistant with the Center for Athletic Academic Services at Texas A&M. Deirdre Joseph, Academic Counselor, received her B.S. in Psychology and M.Ed. in Counseling and Personnel Services from the University of Southern Mississippi. She completed her graduate assistantship in the Student Academic Enhancement Center and her internship at the Univerity of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Adreana Julander, Tutorial Coordinator, received her B.S. in Mathematics from Southern Utah University and her M.S. in Statistics from Texas Tech University. Becca Gibson, Student Athlete Academic Services Intern, earned her B.A. in Communication from Washington State University in 2007.
