On April 28, Business Week announced their long awaited ranking of undergraduate business schools, and listed SMU Cox’s undergraduate program as #20 in the nation.  This ranking was highly anticipated because it represents the first analytical and quantifiable analysis of undergraduate business programs.

The Business Week ranking was based on surveys of over 100,000 undergraduate business students and 2,000 corporate recruiters.  Factors such as student quality, teaching quality, career placement, and MBA matriculation data were included in the analysis.  In addition to being ranked #20 in the nation, SMU Cox excelled in the several categories:

  • #9 nationally and #1 in Texas in the student opinion survey
  • #12 nationally and #1 in Texas in average SAT score
  • #15 nationally and #1 in Texas for sending the most undergraduates to top ranked MBA programs

In addition to furthering the great Cox reputation, Business Scholars have guaranteed admission to the business school, early access to Cox advising and career counseling, enjoy receptions with global business leaders, and participate in some of the best opportunities the Cox School of Business has to offer.

Cox School of Business:  A Valuable Student Experience

As you work with students who are considering a business major, here are some things to keep in mind that are important to SMU’s Cox School of Business.

Liberal Arts Tradition, Flexible Curriculum
A one-size-fits-all, cookie-cutter type curriculum won’t fit most students, and is not the SMU Cox way.  Our students participate in a classical, liberal arts general education curriculum, coupled with their business major. The connections between business and the liberal arts give them the depth and strength needed for success over the long term, not just the trendy tools for today’s job market.  We also strongly encourage students to take advantage of our flexible curriculum to study abroad and pursue minors or a second major outside of business – combining things like history and finance, psychology and accounting, foreign language and marketing, dance and business.  Your students are not all the same – their college experiences should not be, either!

Full Faculty Access
Many business schools put all their best apples in one basket, dedicating the bulk of faculty resources to the MBA Program. At SMU Cox, our faculty teach in both graduate and undergraduate programs, so our undergraduate students have the benefit of classes taught by our faculty superstars.

Location, Location, Location
The best place to study business is in a city

known for business. As the #2 city in the US for corporate headquarters, Dallas is our business laboratory.  On and off campus speaker programs, corporate mentoring programs, and academic-year internships are readily available.

Student Services
You know your students – and we want to know them as well.  The Cox BBA Academic Advising and Career Services offices work closely with business majors as they explore majors, careers, and their own goals and dreams.  These offices want to ensure that students take advantage of the myriad opportunities available here for them.
