Earlier application is strongly
recommended, particularly for those
students applying for financial aid or University housing, as well
as students having foreign transcripts. Processing
begins in early March for the fall term and in early November for
the spring term upon receipt of all pertinent data, including each
official transcript through the last completed term. Dance and theatre
majors are admissible only in the fall term by audition.
Most transfer applicants are enrolled at the time of application.
In most cases we are able to render an admission decision without
the work in progress but occasionally a student will be deferred an
admission decision until the final transcript has been received.
Keep in mind admitted students cannot actually enroll at SMU
until the final transcript has been received and evaluated for
transferability. (For this reason we discourage fall-term transfer
students from attending second summer-term).
After You Have Been Admitted
Reservation deposits
For all degree-seeking undergraduate transfer students entering
SMU, a $250 matriculation fee and a $200 advance tuition deposit
are required in order to reserve a place in the academic program.
This $450 nonrefundable deposit should be sent to the Office
of Admission. Space can be guaranteed only to those students who
have submitted the deposit by the appropriate deadline.

Housing deposit
Housing accommodations are offered on a space-available basis for
new transfer students.
Daniel House offers a unique opportunity for transfer students to live
together in an apartment setting. It’s ideal for students who want to live
on-campus in an apartment setting.
Housing forms will be sent to interested
transfer students once the students have been accepted. Students
should complete and return the forms, along with the $100 housing
deposit, to the Office of Residence Life and Student Housing.
Students with
disabilities
If academic
accommodations for a disability may be needed, the student must
first contact the office of Services for Students with
Disabilities to verify the disability and to establish
eligibility for accommodations. Since it can take up to two weeks to
review documentation to determine eligibility, it is important to
submit documentation early. For more information, contact Rebecca
