Application Checklist

Application.
Please fill out the SMU application for admission online at
http://www.smu.edu/admission/apply.asp. The SMU paper
application and the National Common Application with the
National Common Application SMU supplement are also accepted.

Academic
Portfolio/Transcript.
Please send a list of all high school coursework and grades in a
transcript format. If you have taken any classes outside of the
home or through an accredited program, please submit official
transcripts from those institutions.

SAT and/or
ACT Scores.

Three SAT
Subject Tests.
These tests
are meant to show mastery in literature, math, and science.
Exceptions to the SAT Subject Tests requirement will be
considered if a student is able to demonstrate mastery of
subject areas through successful completion of accredited
college course or when the majority of the high school years
have been in a traditional high school setting.

Two Letters
of Recommendation.
One recommendation letter must come from whoever is
administering classes and grades, like a parent, the coordinator
of your academic program, etc… An additional recommendation
letter should come from someone outside of the home who has seen
academic and personal growth. Any other recommendation letters
are welcomed, but not required.

Personal
Essay.
One to two
pages, double space typed personal essay. More detailed
information is found on the SMU Application for Admission.

Resume of
Activities and Achievements.

Interview.
An admission interview, either in person or on the phone, is
highly recommended for all applicants to the university.
