BACK TO UG TRANSFER ADMISSION CRITERIA

In addition to the general transfer admission criteria, the undergraduate admission committee will consider any progress made or lacking towards the SMU intended major.

A subset (prerequisites) is a group of courses required in order for a student (current or transfer) to declare the major and be admitted into the school of that major. A student who has not completed ALL of the required subset is classified as a “Pre-Major” (Dedman College I). The student remains in DCI until the subset is fulfilled.

Transfer students are best served when they can transfer with all or most of the required subset for admission to their major. This saves time, allows more flexibility in scheduling because prerequisites have been met and, most importantly, demonstrates academic preparedness for the program. Most of the courses can be taken externally. It is rare that a student cannot find the required courses available at the current or a nearby school.
