The Tower Center seeks to promote excellence in research and teaching by providing financial support for faculty at SMU.

The John G. Tower Center Faculty Fellowships

The John G. Tower Center for Political Studies offers faculty fellowships to support and enhance research and undergraduate instruction and to provide seed monies to conduct preliminary research that may lead to outside funding.  The purpose of these awards is to increase research and scholarship and to enhance teaching effectiveness.  Grants will be made for the purchase of research materials, equipment, and supplies.  The award limit is $2500.  These fellowships are open to the members of the SMU faculty whose work broadly bears on international relations, national security issues, comparative politics, political economy, and political institutions. Funds are generally not awarded for domestic or international conference travel.

The Colin Powell Faculty Fellowships

The John G. Tower Center for Political Studies offers the Colin Powell Global Order and Foreign Policy Fellowship. The purpose of this award is to increase research and scholarship and to enhance teaching effectiveness.  The award is up to $5000.  This fellowship is open to the members of the SMU faculty whose work broadly bears on issues such as the structure of what former President Bush called the New World Order, the role of the US in this New World Order, and policies and programs the U.S. might pursue in its own interest and that of the world and its people.

The John G. Tower Center for Political Studies offers a faculty fellowship to support and enhance research and undergraduate instruction and to provide seed monies to conduct preliminary research that may lead to outside funding.  The purpose of these awards is to increase research and scholarship and to enhance teaching effectiveness.  Grants will also be made for the purchase of research materials, equipment, and supplies.  This fellowship is open to the members of the SMU faculty whose work broadly bears on U-S Japanese relations, or the culture, politics, or economy of Japan.
