Parents & Families are encouraged to return home Wednesday evening or Thursday morning after the Cook-Out & Kick Off as students are off-campus Thursday & Friday.  Please make travel arrangements with this in mind. 

Move-In

Residential Commons

Mustang Corral Guides & volunteers from across campus will be ready to help you move-in! Visit the Residence Life & Student Housing website to learn more about where to go, what to pack, & more. 

Family Cook-Out

Arnold Dining Commons, Mack Ballroom, & Umphrey Lee Center

The SMU Mother's & Dad's Club sponsors the Family Cook-Out after move-in. They invite you to come enjoy a Texas Cook-Out with your student before you say goodbye!

Kick-Off

Moody Coliseum

Students: Get ready to get rowdy with your Residential Commons! Kick Off is the official start to Mustang Corral. This is a spirited event where students will continue to learn about what it means to be an SMU Mustang!

Parents & Families: Although you will not sit with your student, we invite you to join us at Kick-Off & witness the Mustang spirit in person!

Discover Dallas

Various Locations

Thursday morning, you will participate in Discover Dallas. Discover Dallas is an opportunity for you to explore your city whether you are from across the metroplex or across the country. You have the opportunity to preference which Discover Dallas trips you are interested in when you register for AARO. Discover Dallas aims to connect you with the city you will call home while at SMU. 

Camp Corral

Mt. Lebanon Retreat Center

After Discover Dallas, students will head to Camp Corral. At this one night, two day camp, students will be divided into Round Up Groups. Round Up Groups are comprised of 12-15 students & led by Mustang Corral Guides. Mustang Corral Guides are sophomore, junior, & senior students who help ease the transition to SMU. Students will have the opportunity to interact with other incoming and upperclass students while learning about the SMU community. While the name suggests camping, students will stay in air conditioned cabins & all meals are provided. 

Camp Corral

Mt. Lebanon Retreat Center

Friday, students will continue to meet other SMU students at Camp Corral. While at camp, you will participate in a diversity & inclusion program called Every Mustang Will Be Valued. Additionally, you will get to participate in a time-honored tradition & ceremony at the closing of the Camp Corral experience.

 

Sexual Violence Prevention Assembly

In order to prepare you to live safely & healthily on campus, SMU students put on a program called "Connecting the Dots". This mandatory program aims to help students recognize sexual, emotional, & physical abuse in their own relationships or relationships of friends, roommates, or classmates.

With the first day of class only two days away, we want to make sure you know where you are headed! Your Mustang Corral Guides will take you around campus & show you where your buildings & classrooms are so you are confident the first week. 

Night at the Club

Dedman Center for Lifetime Sports

Join us at Night at the Club to explore all of the student organizations at SMU! Night at the Club is a great way to meet other SMU students, think about how you want to get involved, & see the diverse range of interests of the student body. University Worship

Hughes Trigg Student Center Auditorium

University Worship, an all-university service of worship in the Christian tradition, is open to all. The service is held on the first Sunday of fall term. Chaplain Steve Rankin, as pastor and minister to the SMU community, leads and preaches at University Worship.

Common Reading Discussion

The Common Reading discussion is one of your first opportunities to connect with the SMU Learning Environment. Faculty, staff, & upperclassmen will lead discussions about the 2017 Common Reading.
