Students serving as a Peer Dialogue Leaders will:
  • Understand social constructions of power and privilege
  • Increase ability to recognize multiple perspectives related to societal issues and diversity
  • Develop self-awareness in the context of social and cultural identities in relationship to other groups
  • Relate their cultural background and its influence on experiences and perceptions
  • Discuss diversity in relation to various social and cultural identity groups and their interactions
  • Practice effective small and large group facilitation

Responsibilities

  • Foster an environment in the residential commons of mutual respect for all students, faculty and staff
  • Facilitate intergroup dialogue programs/workshops in assigned residential commons at least once every month
  • Assist the Residential Assistant and Residential Community Director in the mediation of conflicts associated with social and cultural identities
  • Serve as a liaison to the Residential Commons community, offering periodic training and consultation to other student staff members

Specific Qualifications

  • Minimum Grade Point Average of a 2.5 (verified through student records)
  • Must be enrolled as a full-time student
  • Must demonstrate an authentic desire to create an inclusive community
  • Must be available for PDL training beginning August 16, 2014 on campus
