Counseling and Psychiatric Appointments:
Counseling and psychiatric services are available for currently enrolled SMU students free of charge.
Appointments are available during regular business hours.
To schedule an appointment, use the Health Services Patient Portal or call the CAPS front desk
Students new to CAPS or who are returning after an absence of more than 3 months will need to schedule an initial triage appointment. These brief 30 minute appointments will allow you to be seen quickly, to have your needs evaluated, and to discuss your treatment options. Community referrals may be provided if that represents the most appropriate and best treatment.
- Initial Triage Appointments are Monday through Friday 1:00 - 3:00 PM
Students may self-schedule their initial triage appointment by accessing the Health Services Patient Portal. You will be able to fill out the Client Information Form online. When you arrive at CAPS, you will be asked to sign the Consent for Counseling and Treatment Form as well as a HIPAA release. Please take time to read all Consent Forms carefully before signing.
If you wish to complete your online paper work at CAPS, please arrive 30 minutes prior to your self-scheduled triage appointment (ie. if your appointment is at 1:00 PM please arrive no later than 12:30 PM).
For those students who become clients of CAPS, you will either schedule your continuing appointments with your clinician or you may call the center at 214-768-2277 (CAPS). Compliance with keeping your appointments is essential. CAPS has the option to refer your care to clinicians in the community if you repeatedly fail to show up or cancel appointments (without appropriate reasons).
