March, 2013

Name: Marcus Wirth

Position: Dedman Center Facility Manager

Marcus worked for Indiana University Recreational Sports as an Intramural Sports Supervisor for four years where he supervised 24 intramural sports that had 22,000 participants. During his undergraduate career at IU, he also worked for the IU football team, coached basketball and hosted a radio sports talk show. Marcus worked for University of California-Berkeley Recreational Sports as Graduate Assistant for Recreation Operations for approximately a year where he assisted with the day-to-day operation of Cal’s 100,000 sq. ft. multipurpose recreational sports facility and supervised approximately 100 student employees. He has also worked for NBC Sports in On-Air Communications and worked as a Marketing Intern for the Oakland Raiders.  In the past six years he has lived in Indiana, New York, Florida, California and now Texas. 

Marcus has an undergraduate degree in Sports Communication from Indiana University and a Masters in Sports Administration from St Mary’s College. He loves playing and watching sports. His favorite teams are the Indiana Hoosiers, Cincinnati Bengals, Chicago Cubs and the Indiana Pacers.

Name: Karla Bustillos

Position: Administrative Assistant, Mutlicultural Student Affairs

Bio: Karla comes to us from W.T. White High School where she served in the role of Administrative/Teacher Assistant and Test Coordinator. She assisted in the coordination of Guidance Counselor related conferences and events, Advance Placement Exams and all senior class events. At SMU, she will be providing administrative support for the OMSA programs and services and offering assistance to the Office of Student Activities, Student Senate and other units housed in the SAMSA Suite.

Name: Sarah Hobin

Position: Administrative Assistant, CEL and Hegi Career Center

Bio: Sarah comes to SMU from the Center for Global Education at the University of San Francisco where she provided administrative and developmental support for over 70 current/future University programs abroad. She will provide administrative support for the Hegi and CEL groups while also offering assistance to Faye Cagle and Mary Logan.

Name: Norma Munoz

Position: Administrative Assistant, Student Development & Programs

Ms. Munoz comes to SMU from Mesquite ISD School District where she served as a bilingual secretary, and before that served as an Administrative Assistant with Trigon Management Company.

Name: Lindsey Gavlick

Position: Assistant Aquatics Manager, Dedman Rec Sports

Bio: Lindsey recently graduated from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and emphasis in Marketing and Event Management. She has worked in the recreation industry since 2006 on teams in Rowlett and College Station, TX as well as on campus at the Texas A&M Recreational Sports Center. Most recently she served as the Assistant Marketing and Events Coordinator at Messina Hoff Winery and Resort in Bryan, TX. She prides herself most on the leadership roles she has taken through Youth and Mission Ministries at First United Methodist Church of Rowlett.

Name: Dolores Yvette Henry

Position: Meeting Services Coordinator, Hughes-Trigg Student Center office

Bio: Dolores completed her first undergraduate degree in 2007 while working at the Dedman Center for Lifetime Sports. In 2012, she completed her second undergraduate degree while working evenings and weekends at the Dedman Center. Dolores most recently served as the Assistant Facility Manager for the Dedman Center where she handled event reservations.

Name: Allison Day

Position: Assistant Director of Facilities, RLSH

Bio: Allison has worked in the Hegi Career Center for the last five years overseeing the day-to-day operations of the center. Prior to joining SMU Allison worked with Marriott International for 8 years where she left as an Assistant General Manager managing the daily operations of the facilities and staff.

Name: Elise Smith

Position: Coordinator, New Student Orientation and Student Support position.

Bio: Elise graduated in May of 2012 from the University of Southern California with a Masters of Education in Post-Secondary Administration and Student Affairs. During her time at USC she also gained valuable experience in planning, implementation and assessment of programs for a variety of student populations, through her various assistantships. Elise’s work with orientation goes back to her undergraduate career at TCU where she was Director for Frog Camp and TCU Connections, a leadership program for first-year students. Elise has worked with the NSOSS office before as a NODA Intern for Mustang Corral in the summer of 2011.

Name: Jodi Mahoney, PhD, Provisionally Licensed Psychologist.

Position: Counseling Psychologist, Memorial Health Center

Bio: Jodi previously served as an intern at SMU with Counseling and Psychiatric Services (CAPS) during the 2010-2011 academic year and remained at CAPS as a post-doctoral fellow during the 2011-2012 year. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Baylor University and Doctor of Philosophy from the UT Southwestern Medical Center. In addition to counseling students, Jodi will be active on campus attending Caring Community Connections meetings and participating in other outreach initiatives.

Name: Jorge Juarez

Position: Executive Director, Recreational Sports

Bio: Jorge completed his Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology at Texas A&M – Corpus Christi and his Masters of Science in Sports Administration at Texas Tech University. Prior to joining SMU, Jorge was Director of Campus Recreation at Texas A&M – Commerce, with previous leadership positions in recreational sports include Texas A&M – International and Texas Tech University.

Jorge is very active in recreational sports professional organizations. He is a member of the National Intramural Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA), and currently serves as the Texas State Director. He is also a member of the Texas Association of Chicanos in Higher Education (TACHE), Texas Association of College and University Student Personnel Administrators (TACUSPA), and Texas Association of Sports Officials (TASO).

Name: Valerie Little

Position: Student Association’s Accountant.

Bio: Valerie received her Bachelor of Business Administration from Dallas Baptist University, and is working towards a Masters of Business Administration, also from Dallas Baptist, with an anticipated graduation date of May 2014. Valerie comes to SMU with accounting experience and has also worked on a college campus.
