Ed-Entrepreneur Center (EEC)

Representing a unique partnership between the Teaching Trust (a nonprofit organization dedicated to school reform) and SMU's Simmons School of Education and Human Development, the Ed-Entrepreneur Center (EEC) offers innovative leadership programs that serve the unique management and leadership needs of urban schools. In this respect, EEC's programs stand apart from traditional principal preparation programs that rarely address the realities and special circumstances of urban schools.   Urban school principals are typically expected to confront and resolve the very difficult issues of their schools without adequate preparation in critical areas such as talent management, supervision, strategic planning, implementation of education policies, selection and use of leading technology, and the development of a school culture that fosters the growth and effectiveness of all school employees and students. The Ed-Entrepreneur Center's programs address these critical needs so that their graduates are prepared and highly motivated to handle the challenges of leading an urban school.

The ED-Entrepreneur Center programs serve a range of leaders:

  • Master's Degree in Urban Leadership for aspiring principals - a two-year program with the second year spent in a leadership position on a campus with a mentor principal
  • Accelerator program for credentialed school leaders to further their skill sets
  • Level 5 leadership training for effective principals who want to tackle more serious challenges or become mentor principals
  • Applied Institutes for campus leadership teams on specific topics
