ð        Study Skills

June 14 & 15, 2013

This course emphasizes learning styles and processes, as well as organized patterns and cognitive development of the dyslexic student. Survey study skills and learning strategies used in the classroom or in clinical practices are discussed.

 

ð        Seminar on Writing Skills: Umbrella Writing

June 22, 2013

8:00 am – 12:00 pm

3 contact hours, $75

This course on writing skills will cover the umbrella writing curriculum, an effective method of writing organization and implementation. The umbrella writing process will be explained, and practical, hands-on exercises will show how to use this system in the classroom or clinical practice environment.

ð        Survey of the MTS Curriculum

August 6, 7, 8, 2013

9:00 am – 3:00 pm

15 contact hours, $375

This three day workshop prepares participants for implementing the MTS Reading and Spelling Program.  Based on Margaret Taylor Smith’s Multisensory Teaching Approach (MTA) for Reading and Spelling, MTS for Reading and Spelling encompasses the structure of the English language, including sound-symbol relationships, affixes, syllable types, and syllable division.

MTS is a research-based, upgraded program suitable for:

  • Prevention of reading failure for K-3 students
  • Supplemental instruction with basal or literature-based reading programs in regular elementary classrooms
  • One-to-one and small group tutorials for all ages
  • Special education, all levels
  • Title I reading classes
  • Adult literacy programs
