Annual Application Deadline: May 1
Effective Jan. 1, 2012, Texas law requires that all new students under the age of 30 must provide documentation to the Health Service Center demonstrating that they have been vaccinated against Bacterial Meningitis within the past 5 years and prior to the 10th class day of their first term. Visit the Health Center website for more information at http://smu.edu/healthcenter.
The graduate certificate programs offered by the SMU-in-Plano Learning Therapy Center are accredited by the International Multisensory Structured Language Education Council (IMSLEC) and subscribe to the certification guidelines and standards of professional conduct and code of ethics of the Academic Language Therapy Association (ALTA).
Although many students in these programs are teaching professionals, a wide variety of other educational and professional fields may be appropriate backgrounds for individuals who are interested in learning therapy. Successful applicants must demonstrate a keen interest in learning, a sincere desire to work with individuals with written-language disorders, empathy for others, and high standards of professional practice and conduct.
Courses are taught sequentially, with each course serving as a requisite for enrollment in subsequent courses. A new cohort of students is admitted each summer term. Formal program application is required for admission consideration to all programs, and the annual application deadline for admission is May 1.
Transfer credit hours are not accepted toward programs offered at the Learning Therapy Center.
Transcript Information: Transcripts should be sent directly to the Learning Therapy Center from all colleges and universities previously attended by the applicant. SMU also accepts electronic PDF transcripts sent to us directly from the following services: Scrip-Safe, National Student Clearinghouse (NSC), Avow Systems and Docufide. We will not accept electronic transcripts sent by other sources. Prospective LTP students should have electronic transcripts sent to Learning@smu.edu.
Foreign Transcripts: All foreign transcripts must be accompanied by a professional evaluation and an official transcript, including an English translation if it is not in English. It is the applicant's responsibility to procure this evaluation and to assume financial responsibility for it.
