Laboratory Manager

M.S. in Exercise Physiology from Texas Christian University
B.A. in Kinesiology from Southwestern University

Kelyn Rola is the Laboratory Manager for the new Physiology of Exercise Laboratory in Simmons Hall. She is responsible for organizing and equipping the laboratory, as well as assisting with research and teaching in the lab. In addition to her work at SMU, she serves as a research associate in the Neurology Department at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, TX. At UT Southwestern, she assists with research investigating thermoregulation and autonomic function in individuals with multiple sclerosis.

Kelyn earned her B.A. in Kinesiology from Southwestern University in Georgetown, TX. In addition to her classes at Southwestern, she gained valuable experience in the health field by interning in the Wellness Department at Apple Computer, Inc., where she conducted fitness assessments and organized the annual benefits fair. She also integrated her love of sports into her experience at Southwestern as a 4-year member of the women's lacrosse team, serving as captain her senior year.

Kelyn received her M.S. in Exercise Physiology from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, TX. At TCU, she taught and assisted a variety of kinesiology classes. She also developed a range of laboratory skills, including exercise testing, phlebotomy, and biochemical analyses. During her time at TCU, she assisted in data collection for a number of performance and training studies; however, her own research investigated molecular responses and adaptations to performing exercise in the heat.

Kelyn has become active in the SMU community as a member of the Sustainability Committee, which promotes environmentally conscious behavior on campus. In her free time, she enjoys running, being outdoors, live music, cooking, painting, and traveling. Her passion for travel has led her to study abroad multiple times, attending schools in Cambridge, England, Guanajuato, Mexico, and Granada, Spain, the latter two contributing to a minor in Spanish at Southwestern. When not on campus, Kelyn is likely somewhere near White Rock Lake with her dog, Bea.
