Laurie O. Campbell is an adjunct clinical assistant professor for the Annette Caldwell Simmons School of Education and Human Development at Southern Methodist University. Her background in education has been as a teacher and academic administrator. After teaching for 10 years in various grades in K-12 education, she moved into school administration. While in this capacity, she initiated and developed a program for students with learning differences, led initiatives for writing improvement, and directed a critical thinking infusion project. She has worked as a chairperson at the county and state level for the improvement of education through accreditation. She has led statewide workshops on Technology in the Classroom, Best Classroom Practices, Professional Development, and Critical Thinking.
For nine years prior to coming to SMU, Dr. Campbell taught as an adjunct instructor at Palm Beach Atlantic University in West Palm Beach, FL. Dr. Campbell continues to consult in the field of school improvement and accreditation. Here at SMU, Dr. Campbell teaches in the Undergraduate and Masters programs. Her research agenda includes utilizing technologies to improve achievement and effectiveness in the classroom and graphic organizers with an emphasis on Novakian concept mapping.
