Kathy Oden

Kathy received her Master’s degree in Counseling from the University of North Texas in 1994 and her Ph.D. in Counseling from UNT in 2003. She currently works at Counseling and Consulting Associates, a large group practice in McKinney, Texas. She has over 9 ½ years of experience as a Licensed Professional Counselor. She is trained in and has experience working with children, adolescents, adults, and in working with couples and families. Kathy also worked as a counselor for 6 years at a Hospice in Durant, Oklahoma, with people who were terminally ill and their families. 

Kathy served for 6 years as an Assistant Professor at three universities, including Texas A&M University-Commerce, the University of Houston-Victoria, and North Georgia College and State University. Her experience at each of these universities has added valuable dimensions to her skills as an educator and as a clinician. Kathy is highly interested in cutting-edge counseling interventions. She is trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), a treatment identified by the American Psychiatric Association as an effective treatment for trauma. She is trained in Hakomi, a body-centered psychotherapy that utilizes mindfulness and awareness in bringing about change in clients.  She completed her 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training at Mount Madonna Center in Watsonville, California, which includes training in using the breath and meditation.
