Nina Meierding

Nina Meierding, a former trial attorney, was the Director and Senior Mediator
at the Mediation Center in Ventura, California from 1985 - 2007 where she
mediated over 4,000 disputes. She has also mediated special education disputes
for the California State Department of Education. An accomplished trainer, she
has conducted seminars throughout the world, including Sweden, Ireland, England,
Scotland, and India and has worked with court systems, companies, medical
groups, school districts and government agencies in the areas of conflict
resolution, cross cultural issues, and negotiation skills training.
Ms. Meierding is an Adjunct Professor at Pepperdine University School of Law,
Southern Methodist University (both in the dispute resolution program and the
counseling program) and Lipscomb University and has taught courses at many other
colleges and universities. She teaches Negotiation, Mediation, Advanced
Negotiation, Advanced Mediation, Family Law Mediation, Culture and Gender Issues
in Conflict Resolution, and Counseling Diverse Cultures.
She is a Past President of the Academy of Family Mediators, has served on the
Executive Committee and Board of Directors of the Association for Conflict
Resolution, and has also served on the boards of the Southern California
Mediation Association, the Ventura County Bar Association, and the California
Dispute Resolution Institute. She is on the Advisory Board of the Dispute
Resolution program at SMU. She is a Life Member of the Association of Family and
Conciliation Courts and was a founding member and President of the Board of
Directors of the Ventura Center for Dispute Settlement, the first non-profit
community mediation center in Ventura County, California.
Professor Meierding was awarded the John Haynes Distinguished Mediator Award
in 2005 - an annual international award given by the Association for Conflict
Resolution for distinguished service, scholarship and leadership in the field of
conflict resolution.
