Gay McAlister

Dr. McAlister received her Master's of
Education in Supervision at Lamar University and her Ph.D. in Family Studies
at Texas Woman's University in 2006. She is a Licensed Professional
Counselor (LPC) and a Registered Educational Diagnostician. She served, by
Gubernatorial appointment, to the Texas State Board of Examiners of LPC's
from 1999 to 2003. Since 2004, Gay has supervised 40 to 80 school
counselors per year in Dallas ISD. As an Adjunct Instructor, she taught at Lamar
University in Beaumont and the University of Texas, Tyler. She is a member
of numerous associations in the field with presentations at Texas Education
Association meetings and state conferences. National conference
presentations include the American Counseling Association in Detroit in 2007
and many others. In November 2008, Dr. McAlister presented a workshop
at the Texas Counseling Association 52nd Annual Professional Growth
Conference in Houston, Texas. Entitled "Top Ten Mistakes of New Group
Leaders," the workshop emphasized the value of learning from mistakes as
counselors reflect, process, and analyze the results of group work. Dr.
McAlister's co-presenters were current M.S. in Counseling students, Jena
Darling, Casey Givens, Whitney King, Barbara Paxton, Erin Ray, and Christie Vertal. Her research interests include family behavior patterns,
female relational aggression, Adlerian perspectives in the classroom as well
as counselor ethics and induction of new counselors.
