Marilynn "Birdie" Barr, Ph.D., serves as a senior lecturer in the
Department of Applied Physiology and Wellness.
She earned her doctorate from Texas Woman's University with a major in
Health Education. Dr. Barr started
with SMU in 1980 as the Health Education Instructor in the Health, Physical
Education, and Recreation Department. From
1983-1989, Dr. Barr developed and directed the student wellness program followed
by the award winning faculty/staff wellness program.
From 1990-2008, Dr. Barr served as the
Associate Director of the CHOICES for Living Student Wellness Program.
Dr. Barr is a frequent keynote, presenter, and workshop leader
of various wellness topics at professional conferences across the nation.
She is a recipient of many teaching awards including the Rotunda
Outstanding Professor Award, Honoring Our Professors' Excellence awards,
Pan-Hellenic Outstanding Faculty Award, Pan-Hellenic Inspirational Professor
Award, and Favorite Professor Awards.
