Dean David J. Chard

Welcome to the Annette Caldwell Simmons School of Education and Human Development,
where faculty and staff are dedicated to the development of professional
educators and human service providers and committed to identifying and promoting
evidence-based, cutting-edge practices in counseling, dispute resolution,
education, and wellness.
Our faculty and staff are actively engaged in creating and
disseminating knowledge aimed at addressing the challenges faced by education
and human development in an increasingly diverse world. Faculty members
understand that teaching and scholarship in an interdisciplinary professional
school requires a complex interaction of research and practice focused on
improving the quality of life and society for everyone. We invite you to explore
the numerous research projects, training programs, and initiatives that are
ongoing in the school.
Students come to the school with goals and aspirations to advance
their professional careers and to improve the lives of children, youth, and
adults in the greater Dallas community, the state of Texas, and beyond. In doing
so, they become ambassadors for SMU; they put their knowledge and skills to work
to solve critical problems in schools and human service agencies. If you
envision your future in teaching, counseling, dispute resolution, or wellness
professions, we look forward to helping you achieve your career goals.
The Annette Caldwell Simmons School of Education and Human Development is one of the
newest communities on campus and will become part of the strong SMU legacy of
commitment to education and human service. Our presence, ideas, and impact are
growing. We invite you to grow with us.
