Dean's Research Council

In order to attract major funding from esteemed organizations such as the National Science Foundation (NSF), National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Department of Homeland Security, faculty must receive initial financial assistance to develop their research. The objective of the Dean’s Research Council is to allocate this seed funding and provide the critical support needed to bring these innovative projects to life. Dean’s Research Council faculty awards will range in size from $30,000 to $50,000 and will be awarded through a competitive selection process.

Dedman College is offering individual and corporate memberships to donors who wish to support the Council and further SMU’s efforts to become a top research university. All membership dues directly support faculty research.

The Dean’s Research Council has been made possible through the creative efforts of Frederick B. Hegi, Jr. ’66 and Kelly Hoglund Compton ’79, as well as the generosity of Founding Member Pierce M. Allman ‘54. Their commitment has helped launch this landmark initiative and will contribute to the rise in national prominence of both Dedman College and SMU.
