SMU Athletics embodies the spirit of the University, building community
among students, alumni, faculty and staff as well as residents of the surrounding
North Texas region. Athletic events and the numerous opportunities for students
to compete in Division I sports are an important part of a vibrant campus experience.
As the University celebrates the centennial of its founding and opening, SMU Athletics’
vision is to become among the top 25 in everything it does on the field, in the
classroom and beyond.

Centennial Decade Priorities
In order to maintain excellence and strengthen its sports programs to be more nationally
competitive, SMU Athletics will focus on the following priorities:
Student-Athletes
- Endow scholarships that enable student-athletes to compete at the highest
level in the classroom and on the field
Coaching
- Endow positions for coaches in all athletic programs to remain competitive
Programs
- Provide resources to support the success of SMU’s 17 athletic teams
- Participate in postseason bowls in football and NCAA/NIT postseason appearances
in men’s and women’s basketball
- Grow Mustang Club contributions by an average of 10 percent annually
- Double season ticket sales for football and basketball
- Enhance SMU’s position in the NACDA Directors’ Cup rankings
Facilities
- Enhance facilities for competition, practice and training for all athletic
programs
- Construct state-of-the-art outdoor and indoor tennis facilities
- Establish a home course for the golf program at the Dallas Athletic Club
- Complete Crum Basketball Center, a practice facility for both the men’s
and women’s basketball programs
- Complete Loyd All Sports Center
- Renovate Moody Coliseum
- Construct an aquatic center that will provide a world-class facility for
swimmers and divers

As an integral part of SMU’s overall educational mission, SMU Athletics positively

SMU Athletics is the only Division I program in Dallas, Texas, and has been ranked
as the top school in its conference for 10 straight years in the Director’s Cup
overall athletic rankings. The program’s 17 sports are:
