A great university is shaped by scholars who create and share knowledge. Top educational institutions also require buildings with up-to-date classrooms, laboratories and technology that make it possible for faculty to conduct research and students to learn. Through The Second Century Campaign, SMU must continue to:
- Raise to 100 the number of endowed academic positions, particularly for chairs and professorships, as well as department chairs and deans.
- Provide support for state-of-the-art buildings and facilities that promote learning and research.
- Endow departments, institutes and interdisciplinary studies in core academic disciplines as well as in emerging issues such as energy, education and environment.
- Increase by 50 percent annual faculty research grants and expand opportunities for undergraduate research.
