Incoming First Year Students Housing Assignments
Starting in the Fall of 2014 (Class of 2018), all incoming first year students will be evenly distributed amongst all 11 residential commons. Students will be able to request a specific (mutual) roommate or may request a "potluck" roommate from their academic or program interest group such as:
- Matriculating School (Cox, Dedman, Lyle, Meadows, Simmons)
- Scholar Program (Presidential, Hunt, University Honors, Hilltop, New Century)
- Athletic Team
Second Year Housing
Beginning with the Class of 2017, incoming first-year students will be required to live on-campus during their first two years at SMU. Most students will sign up to return to their Res Commons for their second year and take on leadership roles within the RC. A rising sophomore student may also fulfill the second year requirement by sign up for one of the following non-RC housing options:
- Apartment style residential communities, including Moore Hall and Daniel House
- SMU Service House
- Certified Fraternity or Sorority House*
Housing for Juniors & Seniors
As space allows, Juniors and Seniors may sign up to return to their Res Commons, or may sign up for other University housing.
Housing Sign Up for Students currently enrolled for 2013–2014
In early Spring Semester, current first-year students living on-campus will have the unique opportunity to select their residential commons during the Residential Commons Selection event (Date TBD). Students will get a chance to meet their Faculty in Residence, Residential Community Director, and some student leaders from their future Residential Commons. The SMU Class of 2017 will help to build the Residential Commons system, and be an integral link to making the RC program successful.
