If you manage assignments and exams in paper format, it’s important to know that you need to save one example of the UC assessed instrument (your directions to students or actual exam) and one example of student work per SLO assigned to the course. If you use one assignment or exam to assess multiple SLO’s you can use the same example. You many have to upload it multiple times when you’re filing the report.
If you use blackboard, it’s possible to eliminate the need to prepare those duplicate excel rosters and to eliminate the need to save examples of student work. This works if you are willing to use the ASSIGNMENT TOOL in BlackBoard. It does not work with exam or other BB functions.

ExamSoft and its student testing software SoftTest pair up to offer a secure test environment. Exam questions can range from true/false to essay. Exams can be administered on paper (using scantron sheets) or digitally with each student bringing his/her laptop or iPad. The software returns robust test item and student achievement analysis correlated with specific Student Learning Outcomes.
During Fall 2013, 12 faculty members, teaching some 500 students participated in the ExamSoft Pilot. We learned a lot and are now ready to help more faculty adopt the software.

Two ExamSoft Options Available
All Digital = You create a test bank and test. Students take test via laptop/ipad in the classroom via a secured environment. All data goes to your ExamSoft account and you decide how/when it’s distributed to your students. Grades go to Blackboard grade center. Assessment data and artifacts can be pulled from Examsoft by the Office of Assessment & Accreditation.
Digital & Paper = You create a test bank and test. You print test as usual. You print bubble sheets from any regular printer. You take bubble sheets to scanning and scoring center and all data is returned to ExamSoft account and you decide how/when it’s distributed to your students. Grades go to Blackboard grade center. Assessment data and artifacts can be pulled from Examsoft by the Office of Assessment & Accreditation so they do not have to be uploaded during the final online reporting.
