Caren Prothro

Caren Prothro is a Dallas civic and philanthropic leader. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Mills College. She is a member of the boards of the Dallas Museum of Art, the Dallas Center for the Performing Arts Foundation, and Southwestern Medical Foundation. Her civic activities include past chair (1997-1999) of the Salvation Army Advisory Board. She has served as a trustee and past chair of the Board of Governors of the Dallas Foundation. She is a member of the J.P. Morgan Chase Bank Metroplex Board. Ms. Prothro is a past vice-chair of the Board of Trustees of Southern Methodist University (1998-2000), and has served SMU as a member of the Board of Trustees (1992-present). She has served as chair of the Standing Committee on Student Affairs and vice-chair of the SMU-in-Taos Executive Board. Mrs. Prothro is currently chair of the Academic Policy, Planning & Management Committee and past co-chair of the SMU Capital Campaign. In 2002, Mrs. Prothro was appointed to the President’s Committee on the Arts and Humanities.

She is the recipient of the 2003 TACA Neiman Marcus Silver Cup Award, the 2002 recipient of the YWCA Family of the Year Award, and the 2001 recipient of the Southwestern Medical Foundation’s Charles Sprague Community Service Award. In addition, she was a 1999 recipient of the Annette G. Strauss Humanitarian Award, the 1995 recipient of the Ruth Sharp Altshuler Community Service Award from the Dallas County Mental Health Association, a 1994 recipient of the Institute of Human Relations Award from the American Jewish Committee, the Dallas Historical Society’s 1993 Hall of State Award, and the 1989 recipient of the William B. Travis State of Texas Award for Volunteerism. Mrs. Prothro resides in Dallas.
