Mission

The Engaged Learning Advisory Committee (ELAC) provides advice and guidance in the development and implementation of Engaged Learning policies, programming, and assessment of its overall educational impact. ELAC is comprised of an executive council and working groups.

The ELAC Executive Council provides guidance in the integration of the Engaged Learning project into the academic missions of the undergraduate schools and student affairs programming.

The ELAC working groups target specific functions of the Engaged Learning initiative. Working groups provide vision, expertise and assistance to the Engaged Learning staff.

Meetings

ELAC meets in general session twice annually, early fall semester and late spring semester. The general session is open to all ELAC members.

The ELAC Executive Council meets in general session twice annually, early fall semester and late spring semester.

The ELAC working groups meet according to the needs of working group function.

Membership

ELAC is comprised of university faculty, staff and one student representative appointed by the Provost. The Provost designates one member as Chair to provide leadership and direction in collaboration with the Director of Engaged Learning. Terms are three years with the option to renew.

Engaged Learning Student Board

Student Board is the student voice for Engaged Learning (EL) and its programs - Engaged Learning Fellowships (ELF), Clinton Global Initiatives University (CGI U) and Big iDeas (BI).

Mission

a) To be the student voice for Engaged Learning (EL) and its programs - Engaged Learning Fellowships (ELF), Clinton Global Initiatives University (CGI U) and Big iDeas (BI).

b) To strategize enhanced embedding of EL into the SMU experience.
